Chapter 14
Doc
Early Sunday Morning
I already knew everything about Priscilla that a boyfriend or lover should discover about the woman he loved. Standing on the bamboo mat in front of the kitchen counter, I spooned the natural sweetener she preferred into her coffee and splashed it with a dollop of half and half before slightly heating it up again in the microwave and sprinkling it with cinnamon. Stirring the hot liquid, I tapped the spoon on the edge of her cup and thought about her lying in bed.
Sheâd been sleeping so peacefully when I woke. Even though I didnât want to waste a single minute of our time together, I didnât dare wake her. Instead, I rose and stood in the bedroom doorway, staring at her and realizing she was part of everything good in my world, telling myself maybe our love wasnât perfect, but it was damned close.
She had an hourglass figure, evident even under the covers, and her gorgeous body made me ache with need. It had been so hard to leave her there.
Later on, standing alone in the kitchen while pouring a cup of coffee, black, for myself, I observed, âHouston, weâve got a problem. While pouring a cup of coffee, black, for myself. Youâre not ready to go back to the way things were, and you know it.â
âWho are you talking to?â said a soft, feminine voice behind me, lightly roughed by her recent sleep.
âNobody. Come here.â I pulled her to me, so close I felt her heart thudding against my own, and refused to accept the dull ache of foreboding in my chest.
Much to my dismay, she had donned a pair of sleeping shorts and a tank top, which thankfully did an inadequate job concealing her generous breasts.
At one point, sheâd shown me a picture of herself in her twenties, wafer thin, looking like the slightest breeze would blow her over and, in the photo, those delectable mounds of hers were nowhere to be found.
Thank God she was better now.
She eyed me skeptically, and I growled at her. âHow am I supposed to bring you coffee in bed if youâre out of it?â
âOh,â she said, evidently surprised. âI didnât realize that was part of the deal.â
âWell, it is. Go get back in bed, and Iâll bring it to you,â I commanded, my chest expanding as I watched her obediently turn around and return to the bedroom. I followed her and set our mugs on the nightstand, then climbed beneath the sheets, sliding my legs next to hers so the soft, silky surface of her skin brushed against me.
This is how it would be every day if only she could accept that she needed me in her life for more than just a weekend.
As more than just a friend.
What would it take to prove it to her?
âItâs raining so hard outside,â she commented.
âMmhmm,â I responded mindlessly, watching her juicy lips blow a gust of air over the surface of her coffee in an attempt to cool it. She took a sip.
